Lauren Akins Shares Every Sweet Detail of Thomas Rhett's Proposal

Friends since the first grade, Thomas Rhett and Lauren Akins—who wed in 2012—are one of the sweetest country couples around. And now, Akins is giving fans an insider glimpse into their beautiful proposal story. In a recent video posted on social media, TR's wife and mama to the couple's three girls read an excerpt from her new book, Live in Love: Growing Together Through Life's Changes, recounting their engagement.

"I lead Thomas Rhett up a big, winding staircase through the glass doors into the cigar room. 'I don't know that we should be up here,' I said. 'It's alright,' [he said] and he went ahead and opened the door. 'It looks like someone's already using the room. We can come back another time,' [I said,] 'It's alright,' Thomas Rhett said, pulling me into the room and closing the door behind us. All of a sudden Frank Sinatra's 'The Way You Look Tonight,' started playing through the speakers," Akins narrates from her book. "Thomas Rhett took my hands and looked into my eyes and said, 'You know I love you so much. And I can't imagine doing any of this without you.' He let go of my hands and picked up the bottle of wine. He picked up the silver Sharpie and wrote something on the label. 'I've loved you since I was 15-years-old and I want to spend the rest of my life with you." He held up the bottle and I read his words. "Marry me?" My stomach started doing backflips and my smile was so big it hurt my cheeks, as I grabbed the bottle and wrote my response on the label, 'Well, duh, yes."
