Kelly Clarkson Shares Her Jobs Before 'American Idol'
The star reveals her surprising gigs before she became famous.
Whether Kelly Clarkson is making quilts for her co-stars on The Voice or crashing a wedding for a surprise performance, the Texas-born star has amazed and delighted us countless times throughout her career.
But before American Idol and life in the spotlight, what did Clarkson do to pay the bills? In a November 2018 podcast episode on Spotify's The Rewind with Guy Raz, the singer opens up about what she did from 18-20ish to make end's meet.
"I worked at a comedy club. I was a cocktail waitress at a comedy club. I've worked at a Papa John's. I've worked at a Subway...I did anything that paid," Clarkson concedes. She even worked in the vacuum cleaning industry doing door-to-door work.
"There are, quite literally, people in America who have had a foot-long turkey sub made by Kelly Clarkson," quips the host Guy Raz. To which Clarkson rebuts, "Yeah there are, it probably wasn't that good."
Earlier in the episode, Clarkson opens up about the lengths she went to in order to pursue her music industry dreams, even when she was still a high schooler. "I'd sing anywhere. I worked over at Six Flags down in Texas, I did the singing and dancing, all the shows," Clarkson told Raz. "Any option that was available to make money singing, I was like 'ok'"
