She may be a Californian, but Julia Child—for her warmth, pep, and of course her talent in the kitchen—makes the cut as an honorary Southerner in our books.

As we learned in an article over on Apartment Therapy, Boston's public TV station, WGBH, has designated this week "Julia Child Week," in honor of the legendary chef. The festivities kicked off yesterday on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25th, and run through this Friday with the network airing three hours of Julia Child programming as well as tributes to the culinary star from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. ET. All content will stream for free on WGBH’s YouTube, Facebook, and Twitch channels, as well as being posted on WGBH.org.

Per WGBH's website, much is in store for this week of special airings: "This daily watch-party will feature full episodes of WGBH’s The French Chef, plus James Beard Award nominee Tiffani Faison, Yankee magazine food editor Amy Traverso and other special guests, who will join us throughout the week to watch along in real-time and answer your questions and comments via social media. Julia Child Week will also feature interviews with celebrity chefs including Jody Adams, Marcus Samuelsson, and Chris Kimball about how Julia Child influenced their cooking and careers," the website states. "You’ll also get rare, behind-the-scenes footage from Julia Child’s time spent in Provence, France in the 1970s, complete with expert commentary from Alex Prud’homme, the co-author of Julia Child’s memoir, My Life in France and The French Chef in America: Julia Child's Second Act, who is also a trustee of the Julia Child Foundation," the rundown continues. Considering that Julia Child's famed cooking show The French Chef was born following a guest appearance on WGBH during which she demonstrated how to cook an omelet, it's fitting that this network will be paying homage to Child with this exciting lineup.
