Julia Child may have famously enjoyed a glass of champagne with Jay Leno after they demonstrated how to pop open a bottle with the back of a heavy knife on TV. But bubbly wasn't the adult libation of choice for the American chef and cookbook author.
Instead, Jukies enjoyed indulging in a three-ingredient delight, the upside-down martini. As The New York Times reports, "This is a martini that’s about as wet as it gets, and it happened to be Julia Child’s favorite cocktail. It’s one part gin to five parts vermouth." To make the cocktail, combine 3/4ths of an ounce of gin with 3 and 3/4 ounces of vermouth in a mixing glass with ice and stir. Strain it over a chilled glass and add a lemon twist for a garnish.

With warmer weather creeping in, it makes for the ideal spring or summer cocktail, but we think toasting Julia year-round is always an excellent idea.
