On December 22, our favorite UT lovebirds will have reached yet another incredible milestone.

Last week, John and Charlotte Henderson, named the oldest living couple in the world by Guinness World Records earlier this year, were joined by family and friends at Longhorn Village to celebrate an astounding 80 years of marriage.

Arriving in style to their big party, 106-year-old John drove 105-year-old Charlotte in a 1920s roadster and surprised her with a beautiful bouquet of flowers. The Hendersons and their guests were treated to plenty of food and a slideshow of photos of the couple taken over the years.

The Austin-based duo met at The University of Texas in 1934. Charlotte was studying to become a teacher, while John was a guard for the football team. They married in 1939 and spent just $7 on their honeymoon. John, is the oldest living former UT football player.

“They are a wonderful couple, and an example of a very happy couple—glad to be around each other, travel together, and live life,” their great-nephew Jason Free told KXAN.

“They’ve always been very forward-looking people, always very positive about the future, looking forward to tomorrow and what the future holds,” Free continued.  “They’ll tell you the stories of the past, but they don’t dwell on the past—they remember it, but they look forward to the future, and they’ve always been that way.”

Congrats y’all!
