Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams

If there's ever a time to skip dinner and dive straight into dessert, it's with a pint of Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream in your freezer.

Now, the popular artisan ice cream company has launched a new line of dairy-free ice cream flavors, and there's one we know Southerners will be particularly excited about: Texas Sheet Cake. While the company was founded in Columbus, Ohio, the backstory for this chocolate-y flavor has a story that resonates in our neck of the woods.

"Every Sunday as a kid, Jeni would beeline for the dessert table at her church potluck (all good Midwesterners love any excuse for food and community). Texas Sheet Cake, the one-inch high, double chocolate cake, was always part of the spread. Though the history of this cake’s name is a little murky—it’s a fitting moniker for something so big and rich," reads a description of the flavor on Jeni's website. Their vegan version of the flavor melds together Fair Trade cocoa, bits of chocolate cake, and swirls of bittersweet chocolate fudge.

In addition to Texas Sheet Cake, the dairy-free line also includes Cold Brew with Coconut Cream, Dark Chocolate Truffle, and Roasted Peanut Butter & Strawberry Jam. Pints retail for $12. You can purchase the ice cream in grocery stores across the country, online, or at Jeni's scoop shops (Southern outposts include six shops in Nashville, four in Atlanta, and one each in Charleston, St.Louis, Washington, D.C., and Charlotte).
