Yesterday, IHOP locations across the country celebrated National Pancake Day by treating customers to a free short stack of their Original Buttermilk Pancakes. Though the pancakes are available free of charge, donations are encouraged.

Diners at one IHOP location in Houston got an extra special experience, when Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale, owner of Gallery Furniture and a local celebrity, got in on the fun.

Mattress Mack, whose philanthropy efforts regularly make national headlines, donated his pancake flipping skills in support of Flip it Forward for Kids, which provides life-saving medical treatment and healthcare services for children in need. Proceeds from the IHOP on Southwest Freeway on Tuesday, benefited nearby Shriners Hospital.

“I’ve done this about five years now and Shriners Hospital does a tremendous job helping children down in Galveston. Children from all over the world.” McIngvale told KHOU.

Reporter David Gonzalez shared a video of the mattress master at work on Twitter (below).

Since the annual tradition began in 2006, IHOP has raised nearly $30 million dollars for charity.
