It’s not just you: Americans are really leaning into the holidays this year. Cheer-deprived and homebound amid the worsening coronavirus pandemic, there’s a reason we’re putting Christmas trees up earlier than ever and doubling down on lights.

According to psychologist Steve McKeown, the earlier you put up Christmas decorations, the happier you’re likely to be.

“In a world full of stress and anxiety people like to associate to things that make them happy and Christmas decorations evoke those strong feelings of the childhood,” McKeown explained to UNILAD.

Marsha Chinichian, the resident clinical psychotherapist at Mindshine, agrees.

“Decorating early really isn’t a bad idea at all," she told Good Housekeeping. "Studies show that decorating for the holidays improves mood and ignites positive memories. Holiday decorating ignites the child in each of us, eliciting positive emotions.”

This is all a very long way of explaining why we were so excited to discover the Festive Plastic Drinking Cups at HomeGoods.

These whimsical plastic cups in the shape of red Christmas lights are available in stores for $9.99 a piece, which, if you ask us, is a pretty reasonable price for a season’s worth of joyful sipping. They even come with straws and a little domed lid so you can imbibe while rocking around the Christmas tree without fear of spilling.

Cheers, y’all!
