Erin Napier of ‘Home Town’ Reveals the Southern Book She’s Reading This Summer
No summer reading list is complete without an ode to the South.
Summer is here, which means it’s time get outside and bask in the sun (or on the front porch), with a good book in one hand and a refreshing iced tea in the other. Reading is a great way to pass some time on a hot, lazy afternoon—just ask HGTV host and designer Erin Napier, who took to Instagram on Monday to share her latest pick.
The Laurel, Mississippi, native—and one half of the home renovation duo of the hit show, Home Town—took some time off from restoring her small town back to its old charm to dive nose deep into a book that actually explores the endless charm of the Southern region. My Southern Journey: True Stories from the Heart of the South by Pulitzer Prize-winning writer and regular contributor to Southern Living magazine, Rick Bragg, is not your ordinary book—rather, it’s a collection of love letters to the South, divided into easy-to-digest sections, such as home, table, place, craft, and, of course, spirit. And yes, there’s a nod to Bear Bryant, tornadoes, and even coleslaw—perfectly fitting for the best-selling author and born and bred Alabamanian.
No wonder Napier can’t seem to put this one down while swinging on the porch. As she describes Bragg’s My Southern Journey, it “makes you feel like a good Southerner when you sway on a Holloway porch swing in the middle of the blistering summer.”
If you appreciate a good book recommendation (and, frankly, who doesn’t?), you'll want to head over to Amazon to purchase this modern classic, ASAP.
