Hoda Kotb Will Reunite With Her Mom for the First Time in Months for Her Birthday Weekend

Birthday wishes are in order for Today With Hoda & Jenna show co-host Hoda Kotb who turns 56 this Sunday, August 9th.

Despite an incredibly trying year amidst a global health pandemic, there's also been much joy for Kotb, who became engaged to boyfriend Joel Schiffman in November of 2019. Now, the television personality couldn't be more excited to celebrate her upcoming birthday since she'll be reunited with her mom, Sameha Kotb, whom she hasn't seen since before the coronavirus outbreak in the U.S..

"I'm always excited to have time to hang with the family on my birthday. But this birthday is extra awesome, I haven't seen my mom since....probably January or February, I think. And we see each other usually every month or two, and she is coming," Kotb exclaims on the show, noting that she feels safe doing so since everyone got tested for coronavirus.

After giving Kotb a birthday crown, co-host Jenna Bush Hager asks Kotb to reflect on the this past year. "There's been so much that's been unpredictable. Joel and I got engaged within this last year, we had [daughter] Hope step into our lives, and we have Haley," she begins. "And I just believe if you wonder and you're wondering about your time in life. Some people get their blessings in their 20s. And some people get theirs in their 30s and their 40s. And some people wait to their 50s, maybe even their 60s or even beyond. But when they come they come. And there's something about getting them later because you can't believe it, and that's kinda how I feel. I'm happy for every birthday. I'm so happy I get this birthday with these kids." As always, Kotb gives fans a poignant reminder that everyone's personal timeline is different and life's joys don't always come when they're expected.

Bush Hager then proceeds to unveil a list of 56 reasons the whole TODAY show staff adores Kotb, along with a special message from her dear friend Maria Shriver. Watch more from the segment below. (Warning: we're totally misty-eyed.)
