And we can’t think of a more deserving couple.
Before TJ and his girlfriend Stephanie gave Chip and Joanna Gaines the keys to their old barn on the outskirts of Waco, Texas, all they really had was each other (and TJ’s service dog Macho, of course). But by the time last night’s episode of Fixer Upper wrapped, the deserving couple was left with not only a stunning new home, but a wedding to plan as well.
That’s right. Because watching a community come together to surprise a wounded Marine veteran with his dream home wasn’t enough for one hour of television, Chip and Jo also delivered the show’s first-ever proposal in one of Fixer Upper’s most heartwarming episodes to date.
In case you didn’t tune in, the incredible tale begins after TJ returned from a tour in Afghanistan. He was recovering from his injuries when he met Stephanie, who was working for the Wounded Warrior Project. The couple ultimately decided to move to Texas and hoped to transform the old barn on their sprawling tract of land into a country oasis. Once Chip and Jo and their Fixer Upper crew signed on, news spread about the project, and local businesses and community members became eager to pitch in with donations.
In the end, the contributions of money and materials effectively doubled the original budget, giving the couple the all-American farmhouse of their dreams.
So with the keys to their stunning new home in hand, there was only one thing left for TJ to do: ask Stephanie to marry him. Shocked, Chip and Jo looked on as TJ got down on one knee and asked her to be his wife—the ultimate Fixer Upper twist.
