Watch Dolly Parton Sing Happy Birthday to Hoda Kotb to the Tune of "9 to 5"
This past weekend was a very special one for Hoda Kotb, who turned 56 on Sunday, August 9, and had the chance to reunited with her mom for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic erupted stateside. We're sure it was quite the memorable time for Kotb, her mom Sameha, her fiancé Joel Schiffman, and the couple's two adorable daughters Haley Joy and Hope Catherine.
Now, as icing on the cake, the TODAY show co-host got quite the birthday surprise from Dolly Parton, as Carson Daly recapped on the morning talk show yesterday. Unlike the above photo of the duo embracing a few years back on-set, this sweet gesture transpired in the digital realm: Parton sang Kotb a special birthday song to the tune of "9 to 5." This treat comes courtesy of American Greetings' personalized birthday SmashUps eCards line with Parton, which features a pre-recorded message and song from the Smoky Mountain songbird, with customized touches like the recipient's name mentioned in Dolly's speech (you can choose from a list of 1,200 monikers) and their name spelled out in bright lights on the stage, thanks to the wonders of technology.
"That's right, Hoda, this one's for you," Parton, dressed in a gorgeous gold dress, introduced the performance,
"Cuz it's birthday time, what a day for celebrating,” Parton sings. “There'll be songs and gifts and some happy congregating. This is birthday time, with your friends and new relations. It's a time for joy and happy celebrations!” Parton croons to the melody of her hit song. Watch below.
