From her new holiday album, A Holly Dolly Christmas, to partially funding Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine, Parton is the (rhinestone!) silver lining we all need during this most difficult of years. In a new #TakeABreak segment with Instagram, Parton sits down beside a beautifully decked Christmas tree to share some of her favorite yuletide memories from childhood. "Well, we always got in the mail like most people did back then, Daddy called it the 'wish book' but it was a catalog. Over in the toy section, they had a walking, talking doll...Oh, we wanted one of those dolls so bad,” Parton shared. “And so my brother Randy was our December baby, he was born close to Christmas, and mama said, 'Hey, y’all wanted a walking, talking doll that peed and did all the stuff, come over here, I want you to see your new walking, talking doll. We had our own baby that year, our own walking, talking doll that really cried real tears and he cried a lot of 'em. So we'd have to rock him, take care of him, we had to diaper him, too," she continued, joking that she doesn't think that this living, breathing arrival was as much fun as a doll would have been for the youngsters. As a matter of fact, I wrote a song this past Christmas, it's in my new Christmas album, A Holly Dolly Christmas, it actually says 'You Are My Christmas.' I wrote it about my brother and my brother Randy is singing with me on it, so that made that real special to me," Parton said. On that note, we're hitting play on "You Are My Christmas" for a few minutes of blissful escape. Join us? In the Instagram #TakeABreak video, Parton also talks about a very special year in which her dad pooled together his money with his kids to buy his wife a wedding band and hide it on the Christmas tree, the joy of the holiday season, and more.
