We were already clinging to the edge of our seats with glee when we heard that Dolly Parton's new Christmas album A Holly Dolly Christmas was coming this fall. Now, we're somewhere between Pluto and Saturn in terms of our excitement: Dolly Parton's new Christmas movie, Christmas on the Square, is also slated to be released before year's end.

"On Oct. 2, [Parton will] release A Holly Dolly Christmas, which will include both holiday classics and originals — and duets with Michael Bublé, Willie Nelson and her goddaughter Miley Cyrus — and mark her first album for 12Tone Music Group (which licenses the music from Parton’s own Butterfly Recordings)," Melinda Newman announced in a recent Billboard cover story on the Smoky Mountain Songstress. "The music leads to new business ventures, which lead to a greater appetite for more music, creating a chicken-or-the egg cycle of opportunity: A Holly Dolly Christmas will accompany a Netflix Christmas movie called Christmas on the Square that shares its name with one of the album’s original songs," Newman continues.

Currently, Netflix is yet to announce an official release date for the holiday film. On the movie's IMDb page, the plot is described as "an embittered 'Scrooge' of a woman plans to sell her small town, regardless of the consequences to the people who live there." Throw in some yuletide magic and Parton herself, and we're thinking you've got the makings of quite the seasonal masterpiece. In addition to Parton, the movie stars Christine Baranski and Treat Williams.

During this tough chapter in history during the coronavirus pandemic, we're more eager than ever for the joy and sense of tradition the holiday season will bring us. Let the countdown to a Holly Dolly holiday time commence.
