“How can you not photograph that smile!”

It wasn’t too long ago that three-year-old Ima was found abandoned, languishing in a backyard kennel. Now, the expectant mama dog, is, by all accounts, a burgeoning supermodel.

Ima’s foster mom, Sarah Freeman, had her in her Charlotte, North Carolina home for just a day or two before inspiration struck:  this sweet dog deserved a photo shoot.

“I thought of the idea because I have so many friends who are pregnant and had their own maternity shoots,” Freeman told Southern Living. “Also, since she is so calm and sweet, it was easy to photograph her. Plus, how can you not photograph that smile!”

Freeman fashioned Ima a flower crown, draped her in a sash, blew up some “Ready to Pop” balloons, and got to work. Ima, it turns out, is a natural.

Now, the only thing left to do is wait for her babies to arrives. “She can give birth any day!” Freeman notes. “It’s hard to tell since we don't know exactly when she became pregnant.”

As for Ima, Freeman says she’s settling into her temporary home—and pregnancy—nicely. “She is scared but loving. Just wants love and cuddles and to never move again while being pregnant,” she said with a laugh.
