“That's disgusting, babe!”
Chip Gaines, it turns out, is not a fan of avocado toast.
From shiplap to jadeite, The Fixer Upper funnyman has had no problem getting on board with Joanna’s other trendy endeavors, but when it comes to mashing up avocados and spreading it on toast, well that’s where he draws the line.
Chip revealed his true feelings about the millennial favorite during Tuesday night’s episode of Fixer Upper, in which he and Joanna unveiled the transformation of their new restaurant Magnolia Table.
After warning his wife about making the restaurant too “frou frou,” Joanna suggested they complement their menu of comfort food favorites with avocado toast.
After trying a sample she made for him, Chip wasn’t shy about sharing his distaste for the polarizing dish. “That’s disgusting, babe—nobody wants avocado on their toast,” he noted. He then defiantly finished only the bacon on his plate.

“I’m done,” Joanna replied, seemingly uninterested in his critique.
The debate only escalated from there. Chip decided to take the issue public by taking over the restaurant’s marquee, writing: “Avocado toast? Honk once for yes, twice for no.”
Naturally, the locals had plenty to say about it. As did the couple’s devoted fans.
“NO!!! Home style country cooking for sure!!!!” one Twitter user replied. “I’m with @chipgaines no fru-fru food”
Others chimed in with their support for the breakfast food.
“Honk! Avocado is so good for you!! Love it on toast!!” another person wrote.
Given the fact that avocado toast did eventually make its way onto the Magnolia Table menu (it’s $8 and features wheat berry toast, garlic aioli and fresh avocado served with red pepper flakes, sea salt and a lemon wedge on the side) it seems that Joanna ultimately won out.
