North Carolina's Famous Pimento Cheese Festival is (Sort Of) Back!
Be still our Southern hearts.
Come one, come all to lovely Cary, North Carolina… and bring your stretchy pants. The Triangle-area city's annual celebration of pimento cheese is back.
After Cary's 2020 Pimento Cheese Festival was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, the city's ode to the beloved Southern delicacy has returned… with modifications. This year, instead a full-blown festival with food trucks serving up free samples, Cary has teamed up with 12 local restaurants to host "Taste of Pimento Cheese."
From June 4 through June 13, the restaurants will be incorporating pimento cheese into their menus. While the dishes haven't been officially confirmed, we have it on good authority that diners can look forward to a waffle topped with pimento cheese and maple walnut syrup, a pimento cheese and jalapeño scone, and a pimento cheese and tomato quiche, just to name a few. Plus, everyone who orders a pimento cheese dish will get a limited-edition collectors pin.
But wait, there's more! Cary has also teamed up with Grazin Gals who will be putting together charcuterie boxes that feature two types of local pimento cheese along with a lot of other tasty treats.
Hungry customers have until June 5 to place their orders. Boxes can be picked up on June 12 at one of four Cary breweries or the Downtown Cary Farmers Market.
