Blockbuster Board Game

It seems like ancient history now, but it wasn't that long ago that you had to get into your car and drive (gasp!) to your neighborhood Blockbuster store to rent a movie.

Ah, Blockbuster. The now-defunct chain will always hold a special place in the hearts of those who lived through its countrywide domination in the 90s, its painful early aughts decline, and inevitable bankruptcy in 2010.

It's been a long time coming, but now, thanks to British board-game company Big Potato Games, you can finally recreate the carefree days of plastic VHS cases and cardboard cutouts at home.

As Cosmopolitan reports, the objective of the Blockbuster board game is simple. Win it all by being the first team to collect one movie from all eight genres—action, classics, comedy, horror, sci-fi, drama, animation, and family—while making your way around a board modeled after a Blockbuster parking lot. The game, which includes 200 classic movies and a sound-effect timer, also comes in a VHS box.

"We realized if we felt such heartfelt nostalgia for picking up rentals, then others would feel the same," Massimo Zeppetelli, head of marketing for Big Potato Games, told Cosmo of their inspiration for the game.

The Blockbuster Party Game ($20) is currently available to purchase at two places: Target and the last remaining Blockbuster store in Bend, Oregon.

Laminated rental card not required. Popcorn and snacks not included.
