"Blake made sure they were part of the excitement," a source told Entertainment Tonight.

Future Super Stepdad Alert in the house: Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani are engaged!

The musical superstars and The Voice coaches announced their engagement last week and we couldn't be more excited for the beautiful couple. But it's more than just a marker of their devotion to each other—the step towards marriage marks the official blending of their families, most significantly Stefani's three sons with ex-husband Gavin Rossdale, Kingston, 14, Zuma, 12, and Apollo, 6. And Shelton is taking his role in these kids' lives to heart, making sure to involve them "every step of the way" in his proposal plans for their mom, per a source who spoke with Entertainment Tonight, along with, of course, his presence in their everyday lives.

According to that source, Shelton "is very close to Gwen's boys," as we've seen for ourselves through photos the couples have posted on social media of Shelton bonding with Stefani tribe. "They talked it through and Blake made sure they were part of the excitement! Blake had a custom-made engagement ring. He knows the designer and has used them in the past to make bracelets for Gwen."

Before he popped the question, the Oklahoma native also made sure he had the blessing of Stefani's father. "Blake's plan to propose to Gwen began by asking her father for her hand in marriage. Gwen is very traditional so he truly felt that asking her father for approval was the proper thing to do. And her father adores Blake. Gwen has been ready to tie the knot for a long time and Blake knew this was the perfect time," the source told Entertainment Tonight.

We're sending our best wishes to the newly betrothed couple. When the time is right, we hope this Okie convinces his California girl to say their "I dos" in the Sooner State.
