Three-Year-Old Atlanta Girl Meets Pope, Promptly Steals His Hat
Save your prayers, the only thing three-year-old Estella Westrick wanted out of her meeting with His Holiness was his hat.
The Pope has many things people desire, but the only thing three-year-old Estella Westrick wanted out of her meeting with His Holiness was his hat.
Estella's family was delighted when the religious leader reached out to her for a kiss during a papal audience at the Vatican this week. As her father lifted her towards the pope, the sassy toddler from Atlanta reached out and snatched the hat right off the pontiff's head. Everyone (the pope included!) couldn't help but laugh at the boldness of the cute little American.
Estella's uncle captured the hilarious moment on video, and it went viral within hours of him posting it to social media.
"Took my Goddaughter to meet the pope," her uncle, Mountain Butorac wrote on Twitter. "She stole his hat!"
"You can see that as they brought her, she was kind of staring at the hat," Butorac told the Today Show. "So as the pope was going in to kiss her, she was already eyeballing it and her hand was starting to move up. It was like she went in with a plan."
Butorac says the pope and his attendants continued laughing about Estella's sneaky move as greeted other visitors.
