This Adorable 91-Year-Old Alabama Man Works out 3 Times a Week—in His Overalls

Meet Mr. Lloyd Black.

Wearing a long-sleeve button-down shirt and denim overalls—his usual choice of workout attire—Lloyd Black smiled for the camera.

Ashley Seaman, the general manager of Anytime Fitness in Semmes, Alabama, was happy to take a photo of the 91-year-old for the fitness center's Facebook page. Every month she selects a member "who is showing a lot of progress and dedication" for a little extra recognition. Seaman told AL.com that Black, the gym's oldest member, was an obvious choice for January's Member of the Month.

Black and his wife, Mary, joined Anytime Fitness about a year ago. "I realized I was in bad shape," he recalled. "I could not do simple tasks anymore. That's what motivated me to do it."

Since then, he's been coming in three times a week. "He's always laughing and telling a joke," Seaman said.

When he started working out, he couldn't walk for more than 10 minutes on the treadmill. Today, he can do 30 minutes. He also does leg presses and works out on some of the upper-body machines. He loves to brag about his newfound strength and balance.

"It just improves the way you feel," Black told AL.com.

It's easy to see that his positive attitude is contagious.

In the past two weeks, the gym's Facebook post featuring Black's smiling face and adorable overall has been shared more than 3,000 times. Hundreds of comments from those who recognize the former principal who retired 30 years ago from Mary G. Montgomery High School.

Seaman knew he would inspire people, but she never guessed by how much.

As for the overalls? Black said there's a very practical reason for them. "I don't have any hips, and I can't keep my pants up!" he said with a laugh.
