Amazon Driver Goes Above and Beyond for South Carolina Man Undergoing Chemotherapy
“What he did was absolutely awesome.”
Carlos Pagan was diagnosed with blood cancer in March and is currently undergoing chemotherapy. With the coronavirus pandemic raging, he and his wife Denise decided to affix a note to the front door of their Charleston-area home to explain to visitors why they cannot answer the door.
A week after leaving the flowers and card, Antonio returned just to check in on Carlos. The two strangers met for the first time through the window. (See the photos here.)
Carlos told WCIV that he was extremely touched by the gesture.
“He wasn’t delivering any packages to us on Sunday, he just wanted to make sure whoever was undergoing the cancer treatment was okay,” said Denise. “His eyes brightened up when he saw him, and he told him, ‘I want you to know you’re going to be okay and you’re going to be walking soon.'”
It turns out that Antonio recently lost his mother and grandmother to cancer, so Carlos’ cancer battle is personal.
“I thanked him and told him it meant a lot to me and he just said he had to do something,” Carlos recalled. “For someone that doesn’t even know me, to come to my window and say, ‘In a couple months, you’re going to be okay, you’re going to be up and walking,' it was just awesome what he did. What he did was absolutely awesome.”
