Amazing 88-Year-Old with Alzheimer's Comes Back When She Sings with Her Son
Kelly Ridings is all too familiar with the heartache of Alzheimer's. It has robbed the Dalton, Georgia resident's 88-year-old mother of so much—her health, her memory, and her independence. But it hasn't robbed her of music.
Just in time for Mother's Day, Ridings shared a powerful video of himself singing "Praying" by Vern Godsin with his mother, and we can't get over how she has been transformed by the music. Her age and illness just disappear as she strums the guitar and keeps perfect harmony with her son.
"Mom is 88 now," Ridings wrote alongside a video of their adorable duet on Facebook. "She's in assisted living and has Alzheimer's but she can still play and sing better than anyone in my eyes. I realized while I was singing with her tonight, I had never videoed us singing together, so I captured a couple of songs for posterity. Most days I miss her, but she always comes back to me when we sing."
The video went viral in no time, inspiring Ridings to record another mother-son performance.

"I have had an overwhelming number of people ask for another song of my mother playing the guitar and singing," he wrote in a follow-up post a few days later. "I visited her yesterday and tried to explain just how much of an impact she has had on so many people around the globe. Although she couldn't quite grasp the scope of her influence, she was more than eager to play and sing again. She even smiled for the camera this time!"
Just wow. Keep singing you two!
