Independence Day is inching closer. Time to book that vacation, folks. How's a trip to to Chucktown sound? 

According to the travel whizzes at KAYAK, it sounds pretty good. The flight-and-hotel search engine giant looked at flights data, both domestically and internationally, for the July 4th holiday, and Charleston came in first for the top domestic deal destinations. With median airfare hovering around $247, that represents a year-over-year drop of approximately 31%. Austin and Raleigh tied for second place, along with Boston, with median airfare down 18% for all three, with Austin at $242 and Raleigh at $220.

Meanwhile, in KAYAK's trending domestic destinations roundup, two Louisiana cities reigned supreme in the Top 3 rankings. Interest in New Orleans has spiked 198% since last year and Baton Rouge 169%. Island getaways are also on consumers' minds, with Maui interest increasing by 52%.

If you're toying with the idea of planning that trip though, it's best to act quickly. KAYAK's data reveals that domestic flights start to creep upwards in price for a July 4th weekend getaway after June 9th (if you're thinking of traveling abroad, you should buy your flights by June 14th to lock in the best Independence Day week deals).
