One of our newest house plans, Brazos Bend SL-2096, made its debut as a Showcase Home built by Kurk Homes, members of the Southern Living Custom Builder Program. This home, on the plains of College Station, Texas, invites the whole family to stay after game day in Aggieland. The Southern Living house plan was designed with accessibility and multi-generational living in mind with dual primary suites on the first floor, zero-entry showers, and extra wide doorways that stretch 3-feet wide.

The home’s spacious open-concept first floor makes the most of its footprint with 12-foot tall kitchen cabinetry. Complete with a built-in ladder to access the hard-to-reach bonus storage space, it's the perfect spot for storing lesser-used items like seasonal china and specialized cook and bakeware.

Bifold windows in the breakfast nook open wide to an outdoor countertop with bar seating while sliding doors connect the living room and large covered patio creating an ease for indoor-outdoor conversation and seamless living flow. “The natural light that pours in from the windows makes the space feel spacious while still being connected,” says builder and co-owner Melanie McGinley Sparks. “It’s a timeless space that’s not going out of style, something that you want to live in for decades—it’s a home.”

For the brother-sister building team, Melanie Sparks and Chris McGinley, both Aggie alumni themselves, the home wouldn’t be complete without a few nods to Texas A&M traditions. In addition to incorporating a ‘calvary green’ color palette throughout the home, the walls are decorated with vintage pieces like a 1940’s A&M newspaper, called ‘The Battalion’, and shadowboxes filled with vintage sweaters, boots, and uniforms of ‘Yell Leader’s' and Corps of Cadets.
