Korrin Bishop is a freelance writer and editor with publications in Fodor's Travel, U.S. News & World Report, Sierra Magazine, and Adventure Journal, among others. She began writing for Southern Living in 2022 as a local Tennessee expert and explorer of small towns and big adventures.

Experience

Korrin Bishop has spent over 10 years writing about travel and the great outdoors. Her work is heavily influenced by her experience as a hiker, backpacker, kayaker, camper, and general outdoor enthusiast. She is a certified Tennessee naturalist based just outside Great Smoky Mountains National Park, where she will have finished hiking all of the park's 900+ miles of trails by the end of 2023. She loves to escape the winters by heading to Florida's Everglades National Park, where she has kayaked 300+ miles through the park's backcountry.

Korrin is involved in East Tennessee's literary community. She was a 2020 writer-in-residence at Sundress Academy for the Arts in Knoxville. She also served as its Development Director for two years securing grants to champion the nonprofit's work elevating diverse voices in Southern Appalachia.

Korrin is the current managing editor for Gossamer Gear's lightweight backpacking blog, Light Feet. In previous roles, she served as a regional contributor to The Dyrt Magazine, a staff writer for Misadventures Magazine, and submissions editor for the Great Smoky Mountains Association's blog, Smokies LIVE. She currently writes a recurring column for Smokies Life Magazine about the Smokies Most Wanted initiative in Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

Education

Korrin Bishop graduated cum laude from the Robert D. Clark Honors College at the University of Oregon. Her degree was in planning, public policy and management with a minor in nonprofit administration. She received the Michael Hibbard Award for Excellence as the top student in her department's graduating class and the Barbara Corrado Pope Award for writing a distinguished thesis addressing issues of diversity and equity.
