Drop those vegetable peelers, y’all, there’s a new kitchen hack in town that’s guaranteed to change your relationship with potatoes and that dreaded tool for good.

We’re forever indebted to YouTube user Foody Tube, whose amazing potato hack video demonstrates how to skip the pre-boil peeling process, and simply squeeze the skin straight off the potatoes after they’ve been cooked.

Spoil alert: it’s a total game changer.

Here’s how it’s done. Using a sharp knife, pierce the uncooked potato’s skin in a line all the way around the center of the potato. You can do this quickly (and safely) by twirling the potato around with one hand and holding the knife steady in the other.

Next, boil them like you would normally. Transfer the potatoes to a large pot filled with enough cold water to cover the potatoes by at least an inch. Boil them until they are fork tender and drain. Once they're cool enough to touch (this is important!), pull the potato skin from each side of the punctured line and it will slide off effortlessly.  

Not only is it a quicker and easier way to make delicious mashed potatoes, but with this easy trick, they’ll even taste better too! That's because most of a potato’s flavor comes from its skin, so keeping it on during the boiling process infuses more taste into its flesh.
