Kathy has written six books, including three travel books, and has two additional books in progress. She has written travel and lifestyle articles for 20 years, publishing in Kentucky Living, Georgia Magazine, Country, Southern Living, Long Weekends, Ohio Magazine, and Travel Goods Showcase—a trade publication for the travel goods industry—in the U.S., for DreamScapes Magazine in Canada, and for Luxury Escapes in Australia. Additionally, she contributes to the blog, Real Food Traveler

Her writing has led to many cherished experiences and memories, including glacier walking in the foothills of Denali; being a Guardian on an Honor Flight from Louisville, KY to Washington D.C.; interviewing Dolly Parton on four occasions; sailing with Oprah with Holland America Cruises; riding BOLT!, the roller coaster aboard Carnival’s Mardi Gras; and attending the 70th Anniversary Re-Premiere of Gone With the Wind as a panelist on behalf of her book, The Secret of the Belles. The event was hosted by the Marietta Gone With the Wind Museum and Kathy got to enjoy the company of actress Ann Rutherford (“Carreen O’Hara”) and the “Three Beaus” – Mickey Kuhn, Patrick Curtis and Greg Giese.

  • Currently writing two books: Perfect Day Kentucky, which will be published by Reedy Press in Fall 2023, and a true crimes book about headline-making murders in Kentucky, which will be published by University of Kentucky Press in 2024.
  • 26 presentations for Secret Cincinnati: A Guide to the Weird, Wonderful, and Obscure and Cincinnati Scavenger: The Ultimate Search for Cincinnati’s Hidden Treasures.
  • Taught a Communiversity class at University of Cincinnati based on Secret Cincinnati: A Guide to the Weird, Wonderful, and Obscure.
  • Created a Spooky Secrets Tour based on Secret Cincinnati: A Guide to the Weird, Wonderful, and Obscure, which sold out both years it was offered (2021 and 2022).
  • Member of Authors Guild
  • Member of Society of American Travel Writers
  • Member of Society of Children’s Book Authors & Illustrators
  • Former member of Midwest Travel Journalists Association where she was a newsletter editor for two years and the sites director for four years.
  • Graduate of Southeast Tourism Society’s Marketing College in 2010 where she received her TMP (Travel Marketing Professional) designation.

Experience

A travel and lifestyle writer for 20 years, Kathy Witt has traveled extensively, from close-to-home in Kentucky to extended trips to explore Pompeii, Russia and Norway. She has written for a variety of magazines and has authored six books and is currently under contract for two more books.
