This Kitchen Upgrade Can Raise Your Home's Value by $1,547
It's so easy.
Selling your home? Your mind is probably a flurry of easy renovation ideas and Home Depot shopping lists, both in the hopes of adding value to your property before listing it. Well, here's a super easy way to boost your home's value: Paint your kitchen.
According to research from real estate site Zillow, kitchen colors matter. "A tuxedo kitchen – dark cabinets and islands with light wall colors – can make a $1,547 difference in sale price," a recent article on the Zillow Paint Color Analysis states. Based on their research, this style of kitchen can help boost your sale price at the national level. They also found that a kitchen painted in brick or barn red could make a U.S. home price dip by $2,310.
To determine their findings, the Zillow team looked at more than 135,000 photos from listings nationwide that sold between January 2010 and May 2018 "to identify which paint colors were associated with a home selling for more or less than its Zestimate [Zillow's estimated market value] when compared to similar homes with white walls." In addition to kitchens, they also looked at the association between paint color and price in other rooms around the house.
