The Coziest Winter Nail Colors for January 2022

The Coziest Winter Nail Colors for January 2022

The beginning of a new year often has us all feeling like starting off fresh by taking on better habits, getting rid of old ones, and—most commonly—changing up our look. While others are hitting the squats and going into the salon for a pixie cut, why not start slow and steady with a cozy winter manicure in a color that feels new to you? It takes only a little courage to step outside your usual OPI Lincoln Park After Dark or Essie Bordeaux, which is all you need to kick 2022 off on a fanciful foot.  From new wintry takes on classic dark nail colors to unique pops of color that'll have you feeling the opposite of boring, these are the best nail colors to try this January and tick off all the way into spring.

16 Kitchen Design Trends Southern Designers Predict Will Be Everywhere in 2022

16 Kitchen Design Trends Southern Designers Predict Will Be Everywhere in 2022

There's no denying how the pandemic fundamentally changed the world—including how we live (and work) inside our homes. An overall trend toward celebrating the history and originality of our homes is displacing ultramodern aesthetics and sharp lines as we all look to create cozier, colorful, more personalized spaces that better suit our lifestyles. We're turning away from big-box stores and toward vintage items—first, out of necessity due to supply-chain issues, and now, for design reasons—to add charm and character to every room in the house, including the kitchen. Here, interior designers from around the South share their predictions for what's trending in kitchen design for 2022 and beyond.

Use a collection of pitchers as vases, filling them with hydrangea and viburnum blooms for a fresh look.
Editor's Tip: Stack cake stands to make a dramatic centerpiece and dessert display.

Employ a mix-and-match philosophy, combining plates and glasses of different hues and sizes in one place setting. Try a colorful charger in lieu of a place mat, and use a vintage cocktail fork to hold a handwritten place card.

Let a unique find, such as this set of antique butter pats (tiny individual plates for serving butter), inspire your entire color palette. When topped with chilled butter curls, the dishes' delicate pattern enlivens the whole table.

Meet the Hostess: Buffy Hargett

Hometown: Birmingham
What's your entertaining signature? I always mix something old with something new—such as ornate family silver paired with plain white china.
What's your silver pattern? It's Fairfax by Gorham, monogrammed.
Favorite party staple? Fun paper napkins are a must, especially the colorful patterned ones by Caspari.
Mailed invitations: Yes or no? Handmade invites are always nice, but a simple phone call works too.
What's your go-to cocktail? In the summer, it's anything with fresh mint and lots of crushed ice.
Sweet or unsweet tea? I like unsweet, with a fresh peach slice.
Best easy centerpiece? Any blossom cut from your garden is pretty. I also love single hosta leaves arranged in a cluster of bud vases.
What often-overlooked detail should always be remembered? Lighting. Candles and dimmed lights set the tone for a party and make everyone look better.
How do you know when a party is a success? I know it went well when everyone calls to say, "We should do that more often!"
