The Coziest Winter Nail Colors for January 2022

The Coziest Winter Nail Colors for January 2022

The beginning of a new year often has us all feeling like starting off fresh by taking on better habits, getting rid of old ones, and—most commonly—changing up our look. While others are hitting the squats and going into the salon for a pixie cut, why not start slow and steady with a cozy winter manicure in a color that feels new to you? It takes only a little courage to step outside your usual OPI Lincoln Park After Dark or Essie Bordeaux, which is all you need to kick 2022 off on a fanciful foot.  From new wintry takes on classic dark nail colors to unique pops of color that'll have you feeling the opposite of boring, these are the best nail colors to try this January and tick off all the way into spring.

16 Kitchen Design Trends Southern Designers Predict Will Be Everywhere in 2022

16 Kitchen Design Trends Southern Designers Predict Will Be Everywhere in 2022

There's no denying how the pandemic fundamentally changed the world—including how we live (and work) inside our homes. An overall trend toward celebrating the history and originality of our homes is displacing ultramodern aesthetics and sharp lines as we all look to create cozier, colorful, more personalized spaces that better suit our lifestyles. We're turning away from big-box stores and toward vintage items—first, out of necessity due to supply-chain issues, and now, for design reasons—to add charm and character to every room in the house, including the kitchen. Here, interior designers from around the South share their predictions for what's trending in kitchen design for 2022 and beyond.

Kick traditional Americana up a notch with a palette of red, white, blue—and camel.

Even the room’s patterns riff on familiar American prints like the chairs’ gingham-inspired cushions and the quiltlike sofa pillows. Mod, sharp-lined furnishings bring a sophisticated counterpoint to the cheery color scheme.

Chair fabric: Mark Alexander’s Tashkent Indigo and the rectangular sofa pillow fabric: Cowtan & Tout’s Philmore in Red Tulip, both available through DCOTA; 954/921-7575. Stools: Luna Raffia Ottomans; madegoods.com

Go for broke with color in a small space.

“I wanted a closet that felt like something no one had ever seen,” says Shannon. Howard responded by turning the 175-square-foot space into a glamorous, glossy cobalt dressing den. He also fit the closet with a window for natural light (the most flattering kind) and plenty of storage like built-in cabinetry and an island that provides space for folding clothes and storing accessories.

The Girl's Room

Increase the visual impact of a bed by placing it against a bodly papered wall.

To complement the tiedye-like print, Howard matched the window trim and molding to the wallpaper’s turquoise shade. A mint green ceiling softens the transition from bright wall to ceiling. Soft-raspberry bedding offers an elegant alternative to hot pink. Simple Roman shades and white furniture balance out the vivid color and pattern.

Wallpaper: Scion’s Shibori in Lagoon, available through ADAC; 404/231-3938

THE PALETTE

1. Turquoise: (trim) Peacock Blue (2049-40); benjaminmoore.com

3. Mint Green: (ceiling) Forget Me Not (2049-60); benjaminmoore.com

BRIGHT IDEA

The 1970s scalloped bedside tables used to be yellow, but white paint brought them up to date.

Design a kid-friendly space where guests of all ages can gather.

The teal and chartreuse of the botanical wallpaper guides the palette. A wall of built-ins with vibrant teal fronts and plush window seats atop open shelving frees up floorspace for a stylish adult-size sofa and chairs.

THE PALLETTE
