Idea House Kitchen by Bill Ingram
Let’s take a peek inside this invigorating space, filled with details of evergreen, posh chrome accents and pops of botanicals.
A kitchen should always be the heart of a home, where memories are made and time is savored. The 50th Anniversary Southern Living Idea House’s kitchen is bursting with liveliness, while still providing ample functionality for an active and warm family lifestyle. Birmingham architect, Bill Ingram, says, “I like anything traditional or modern, that’s classic in spirit”. He exemplifies this perfectly with the unity of Southern charm and modern elegance.
Paint It Green
"It's soothing and cooling", says Ingram, in regard to his dark and inviting green color selection. For an updated look, he selected Sherwin-Williams Evergreens (SW 6447) for both the walls, cabinets, and ceiling.
Sleek and Functional
Sleek black counter tops provide depth, while stainless steel and chrome accents and brass sconces add a polished finishing touch. These details compliment the deep green that surrounds the room.
It's all in the details. Here, Ingram delicately selected Emtek egg knobs in Polished Chrome to pop against the green.
A Natural Touch
With invigorating tones like greens, blacks and silvers, a slice of natural tones goes a long way. The maple butcher block counter top, provided by NeedCo, adds earthy balance and charm.
Built-In Butler's Pantry
With ample room for drinks and hors d'oeuvres, the counter space is functional, yet provides sleek counterspace for large gatherings. Overhead cabinets, backed with Black Pinstripe Cotton curtains, by Serena & Lily, give a hidden option for miscellaneous storage.
A Practical Blend
By surrounding the Thermador hood insert in a custom wooden hood that's painted green, Ingram's deep green kitchen doesn't lose any colorful impact.
The island acts as a major focal point for this space, while also serving as the kitchen's main dining and cooking space.
Take a Seat
Several Riviera Stools, by Serena & Lily, create a lively dining spot in the kitchen.
What better way to hide clutter in style than these old-school curtained cabinets? The pinstripe print feels fresh and new again.
In a kitchen this dark, a stainless steel finish, like this one by Thermador, is a must to lighten all the green and it gives the room a straightforward charm.
A Touch On Practicality
This updated Cassidy Single Handle Pull-Down Kitchen Faucet, with Touch20 Technology, provides an efficient addition to a very neccessary part of the kitchen. You can turn it on with just a nudge of your arm rather than touching the faucet handles! Paired with the Crosstown Stainless Steel Sink, these classics provide a modern flare to this space.
Preparing meals for loved ones has never looked so elegant. This Pro Grand Steam Range by Thermador creates a useful space for cooking and visiting with loved ones. Set in the island, the cook can constantly interact with his or her guests.
Pull out, floor-to-ceiling pantry cabinets by Wellborn cabinets wrap the Thermador refrigerator.
Perfect for entertaining, this polished and dainty piece adds quite a punch. Serve your guests delicious beverages from this beautiful copper drink dispenser.
