Steve Bender, aka The Grumpy Gardener, picked the six plants he just couldn't bear to live without and asked eight fellow bloggers to do the same. Among his picks: Southern staple kudzu and local rhododendron varieties like the Piedmont Azalea, pictured.
Judy Lowe in Boston, Massachusetts looks for container-friendly plants that will grow well in her urban garden. One of her favorites is sunny daffodils. She cites Dutch Master and February Gold as her preferred varities.
Helen in Raleigh, North Carolina listed the Southern Magnolia among her six. She says, "Their May and June blooms look and smell heavenly. I’ll pluck one and float it in a bowl near where I read in the morning. It lasts but a day, but what a day it is."
