Just Right for Relaxing
A well-dressed bed, pretty fabric, and cypress walls give this master bedroom plenty of distinctive style.
This delightful room makes the perfect retreat: It's spacious, quiet, and comfortably furnished. Tall windows and wide doorways bring in natural breezes and allow glimpses of the scenic Spring Island, South Carolina, location. For reading and taking in the views, the homeowners enjoy the convenience of a private sunporch off the master bedroom. These two spaces also connect to a large screened porch.
Setting the Scene
Design principal Jim Strickland collaborated on the design of the house with associates Terry Pylant, David Bryant, Ryan Yurcaba, and the late Philip Windsor. They used pickled cypress on walls and heart-pine on the floors. The natural materials bring warmth to this home.
Louvered doors at the rear of the bedroom fold back toward the sunporch, revealing views of live oaks and marsh grass. An additional wide doorway in the room features bifold louvered doors that slide into wall pockets, creating an easy interchange with the screened porch.
Keeping the decoration of the bedroom low-key and relaxing, the owners, with interior designer Susan Bozeman of Atlanta, chose soft green, taupe, and cream accents. The leaf motif on the bed's pillows and headboard hints at the house's wooded setting. Linen shades top glazed, jade green lamp bases placed on the writing desk and bedside tables. Creamy white draperies, banded in green, frame the windows. Dark-stained wicker seating in the bedroom and on the sunporch are ideal for sitting back and enjoying this handsome Lowcountry retreat.
