Baby Nursery Inspiration
When Evan and Andrea found out they were going to have another boy, Andrea decided on a simple and clean look with hints of the outdoors for the nursery. With the collaboration of big brother Garrison, Andrea created most of the items in the new room. "It was an important part of Garrison's journey into big brotherhood to be such a big part of creating a space for his baby brother because he really felt (and was) a part of it all," says Andrea. "It gave us a chance to talk about his feelings and expectations in those quiet moments when we were working on our little projects."
Bright and Balanced Color
Bright accent colors of red, yellow, and blue are balanced with soft backgrounds, keeping them from feeling to bold. "We wanted a very clean, modern, streamlined look that wasn't too 'baby' but a calm, cheerful space with fun splashes of color," says Andrea.

Updated Heirloom Furniture
Using refurbished furniture not only saved a few bucks, but also gave a connection to a sense of history, making it even more meaningful. "I refinished all the nursery furniture myself," says Andrea. "It's the heirloom furniture of a good friend's father—it was his bedroom set as a little boy and they passed it on to us."

Editor's Tip: Use low-VOC paint on nursery furniture, such as Warm Welcome (OW-4-3) by Mythic Paint; mythicpaint.com. Their washable semi-gloss enamal is safe for the baby, and holds up to wear and tear.
Personal touches are carried out throughout the space. "Garrison and I picked out a couple of fallen tree branches on a hike, and we used those to make the curtain rod," says Andrea. "We found two heavy-duty 6-inch metal U-hooks which I painted the same color as the branch and nestled the branch down into the hooks."

Ceiling Light Upgrade
The ceiling medallion adds a custom touch to the nursery. "Garrison and I decorated the ceiling medallion with 'Sweet Dreams' and lambs and stars," says Andrea. She applied the self-adhesive stickers, which she purchased at a local craft store, directly onto the medallion. "The light fixture is a reclaimed outdoor light that we used inside, and it ties in the oil-rubbed bronze hardware throughout the room," she says.
Memories, New and Old
Family photos always turn a house into a home. The photos hung on the wall were taken by a friend. The all-white frame and matte are the same hue— this way, they don't detract from the photo.
Just Enough Detail
Tiny details are noticeable in the nursery but don't become overwhelming. The red bird decal above the door continues the nature theme and adds a pop of color and whimsy.
