Classic Nautical Porch
1. Go with a No-Fail Combo
For a pretty porch, look no further than blue and white, a timeless color pairing that suits any decorating style. "There's a reason why this palette is so popular," says Kelley. "It just works."
2. Lower the Maintenance
Pick teak furniture for its mellow tones and weather resistance. "Use textures on the porch that you wouldn't necessarily use inside," says Kelley. "I like teak for the casual look it gives to a space that's designed for relaxation."
3. Paint the Floor
Skip the rug and define your seating area with a faux-painted version. Apply a coat of varnish for durability and easy upkeep that far surpasses a real rug, even one designed for outdoor use.
4. Stick to One Print
Go all in with one great fabric for all your pillows and seat cushions. "Rather than introducing lots of different patterns, repeat just one for more impact," says Kelley. Always opt for outdoor fabrics for your porch, even if it's covered and protected.
5. Reference the Landscape
Nautical motifs can be cliché, but Kelley suggests giving a subtle nod to your surroundings. For this riverside home, she found a coffee table with exaggerated scalloped edges that mimic the waves outside the porch.
