Certified kitchen designer Jennifer Gilmer overhauled this kitchen to create a room that is both stylish and surprisingly functional. The use of ebony-stained oak cabinetry, rather than a more standard white or pale millwork finish, is the first giveaway that this kitchen is different. The contrast created by the cabinets and light-colored hardwood flooring lends an element of drama and surprise. The cabinets’ streamlined appearance establishes a contemporary look as well.
