Best New Home: Five Winning Details
Board and Batten Siding
ore than just a way to sheathe the exteriors, the board and batten siding also establishes the rhythm and unit of measurement by which the whole house is designed. Everything from the shutter widths, standing seams on the metal roofs, to the widths and vertical pane divisions of the windows, align with the 12-inch spaced siding.
Vertical Glass Windows
In certain places where architect Wayne Good didn't want to disrupt the siding to add windows, he simply replaced the vertical boards with sheets of glass.
Instead of a bulky flight of stairs leading to tower's observation room – which would have blocked prime views of the bay – a slender, mahogany ship's ladder ascends from the master sitting area.
Glass Deck Railing
As stable as they are transparent, glass deck railing installed along bayside deck and open pavilion also keep views open, both from inside or outside the house.
Glass Sliding Doors
Muntinless sliding doors give the illusion that the living room flows right through the open pavilion to the river's edge.
