My Favorite Mother's Day Gift as a Mom
Some of the best times I've spent with my mom have been on our little weekend getaways. We haven't gone on extravagant trips, but a few days in a nice hotel with good food and serious shopping is a great combination. Due to health issues, my mom now lives with us but I'd love to be able to go on one more mother-daughter trip. So if we have the chance (or if you would like to take your mom on a Mother's Day getaway), this is my idea of a great weekend:
We'd head to two of my favorite places, Western North Carolina and the Bed and Breakfast on Tiffany Hill. The seven charming guest rooms in this B&B were inspired from the pages of Southern Living and not one stone has been left unturned. Each morning, a gourmet three-course breakfast is served around a beautifully appointed dining room table where you have the opportunity to visit with the other guests. After breakfast there are so many choices for the day ahead. Tiffany Hill is literally minutes from Asheville and Brevard. If you're up for adventure, head to Brevard where you'll find lots of recreation from white water rafting the French Broad to mountain biking in Pisgah National Forest or hunting for waterfalls in DuPont State Forest. If you want to spend a leisurely day (this is more our speed) perusing quaint shops such as Mast General Store, Screen Door antique shop, Embellish jewelry and gift shop, and Malaprop's Bookstore, head to Asheville.

No trip to Asheville would be complete without touring the magnificent Biltmore Estate. Built over 120 years ago, George Vanderbilt's 250 room French Renaissance chateau is open 365 days of the year. After all that sight-seeing and shopping, you'll need to refuel. Some favorite eateries of the locals are Cúrate (a Spanish tapas bar), Bouchon (a delightful French bistro), White Duck Taco Shop (inexpensive but amazing tacos) and The Market Place (a farm-to-table favorite). The gift of a lifetime of memories is the best kind. Happy Mother's Day from my mom and me to you!
