The Can't-Be-Beat Blue and White Table For a Classic Easter

The Tablescape

Blooming in shades from indigo to sapphire, there's no flower quite like the billowy hydrangea. It may actually be the reason why blue and white is one of our favorite color combinations—a look that can't be beat any time of year. Bursts of greenery provide another garden accent, while light blue hydrangeas paired with transferware-style china create a sophisticated setting. "Don't forget the touch of gold," says Buffy. "It gives a classic table a modern edge."

White chargers frame the ornate blue-and-white patterned plates, while pale blue napkins and gold flatware complement the setting's deeper hues. The best thing about this color combo is how well it works in other patterns (stripes, toiles, florals). "I love layering pale blue napkins to lighten up a setting for spring—it feels totally fresh," says Buffy.

The Napkin Treatment

Add a dash of Easter flair with DIY marbled eggs. Fill a disposable bowl with room-temperature water, and pour in enough nail polish to cover the surface. Make a swirling motion with a toothpick. Using two fingers, fully submerge a hard-cooked egg into the water; let dry. Nestle each egg on top of a bed of ryegrass in a small bowl.

The Centerpiece

Create a showstopping "garland" with a flowy fabric and a few fresh blooms. Select a piece of fabric about the length of the setting, and twist and wind it from one corner of the table to the other. Insert hydrangea blooms (leaving some foliage on) into florist water picks, and tuck them into the folds of the fabric. Add petite potted African violets for pops of purple. Fill in empty spaces with greenery.
