Don't tell your dog, but Christmas is coming. The reason you shouldn't tell your trusted hound about the impending holiday is because this year Trader Joe's has announced that it is not continuing the tradition of releasing an advent calendar for dogs. That's not to say the popular grocery chain is discontinuing releasing advent calendars for pets, though. It's just this year they are helping cats count down the days to December 25th. Ruff break, pups!

The news of the cat calendar came courtesy of Matt Sloan, the vice president of product marketing at Trader Joe's, who sat down for a chat with the chain's vice president of merchandising, Colin Fields, for the Inside Trader Joe's the quirky grocery store's entertaining podcast.

During the episode, Fields gave listeners the inside scoop on the upcoming calendars. "Last year we came out with the dog advent calendar, which seemed pretty odd until we got out in the stores and there was quite a following for it," Fields said on the show. "We heard from our feline-loving customers that we should have something for their cats."

Since Trader Joe's likes to give the customers what they want, they developed a treat-filled calendar just for cats. Delish reports that each day starting from December 1, cats will get one "magical" salmon and seaweed treat, ending on December 25 with a "gigantic one, shaped like a fish." Sloan apparently wanted to go the extra mile for his feline customers, so sampled one of the treats himself. "You know what? That's not good. But I'm not a cat," he said. Cats will undoubtedly love the holiday treat, so long as your dog never finds out.
