Santa Claus is coming to town, and thanks to the fine folks at the North American Aerospace Defense Command, you can know exactly when to expect jolly old Saint Nick in your neck of the woods.

NORAD's annual Santa Tracker is now live with brand-new updates, including games, videos and music for kids counting down the days until Santa takes flight on Christmas Eve.

For 63 years NORAD, a joint military effort between the U.S. and Canada, has been tracking Santa and his reindeer as they make their way from house to house on Christmas Eve. It all started when a misprint in an advertisement for Sears and Roebuck gave children a telephone number to call Santa that instead directed them to the commander-in-chief of NORAD's predecessor. Shoup had his staff field the calls and use radar to "track" Santa, and a beloved tradition was born.

Now NORAD's Santa tracker uses radar, satellites, high-tech SantaCams, good old longitude and latitude and a direct line of communication with Santa's Elf Launch Staff to provide updates on Santa's location throughout the night. They'll even calculate how long it will take him to get to each eager child's home.

Google's version of the Santa tracker, now in its 15th year, is also up and running. It includes an interactive Santa's Village to entertain and educate visitors until the main event on December 24th.
