The Coziest Winter Nail Colors for January 2022

The Coziest Winter Nail Colors for January 2022

The beginning of a new year often has us all feeling like starting off fresh by taking on better habits, getting rid of old ones, and—most commonly—changing up our look. While others are hitting the squats and going into the salon for a pixie cut, why not start slow and steady with a cozy winter manicure in a color that feels new to you? It takes only a little courage to step outside your usual OPI Lincoln Park After Dark or Essie Bordeaux, which is all you need to kick 2022 off on a fanciful foot.  From new wintry takes on classic dark nail colors to unique pops of color that'll have you feeling the opposite of boring, these are the best nail colors to try this January and tick off all the way into spring.

16 Kitchen Design Trends Southern Designers Predict Will Be Everywhere in 2022

16 Kitchen Design Trends Southern Designers Predict Will Be Everywhere in 2022

There's no denying how the pandemic fundamentally changed the world—including how we live (and work) inside our homes. An overall trend toward celebrating the history and originality of our homes is displacing ultramodern aesthetics and sharp lines as we all look to create cozier, colorful, more personalized spaces that better suit our lifestyles. We're turning away from big-box stores and toward vintage items—first, out of necessity due to supply-chain issues, and now, for design reasons—to add charm and character to every room in the house, including the kitchen. Here, interior designers from around the South share their predictions for what's trending in kitchen design for 2022 and beyond.

Cookies in the Kitchen

"At our house, we bake cookies every year," says Gray. "We hand out batches of treats to everyone—the neighbors, the mailman, and even all of Farris' friends and teachers."

  • For Gray:
  • Chunky bouclé sweaters and comfortable jeans are always cold-weather winners. Bring on the winter white too: It's fresh and crisp. Plus, it will hide any runaway flour that gets on clothes when you're whipping up Christmas cookies.

  • Similar Sweater; madewell.com
  • Jewelry, her own
  • For Farris:
  • A long-sleeved cotton dress with a pair of striped leggings underneath means she won't have to change clothes when it's time to make her deliveries and roller-skate down the street with cookies in hand.

Afternoon at the Ballet

"Last year was our first time to see The Nutcracker, and we're going to go every single year now that Farris is a little older," says Gray. "She felt really special and got all dressed up and loved it."

  • For Gray:
  • Go-anywhere dresses are essential pieces to have when the holiday calendar shifts into overdrive. Wear this one with an oversize tote and flats for a last-minute shopping trip, or mix it with accessories like baubles, pointy-toed pumps, and a colorful clutch for the ballet.

  • Nala Earrings, $120; shopgoldbug.com
  • Chamula Love Clutch, $90; proudmary.org
  • For Farris:
  • A fluttery tulle skirt feels just right for an afternoon with the Sugar Plum Fairy. Sweeten the look with a cozy knit sweater.
  • Cable Cardigan, $48; bodenusa.com
  • Star Skirt, $55; jcrew.com

Christmas Eve Dinner

"We have a big meal with a bunch of family as well as close friends who are honorary family," says Gray. "My aunt makes an amazing cocktail with eggnog ice cream for the adults, and we bring gifts for the smaller kids. The evening is really about being together with our family and friends. That's the best part of it for us."

  • For Gray:
  • Think outside the red-and-green box: Vibrant jewel tones like sapphire can feel equally merry and bright. We love the ladylike lace and flattering silhouette of this two-piece look.
  • Lace Top, $98; jcrew.com
  • Lace Skirt, $88; jcrew.com
