It's no secret that spices are the key ingredient to adding flavor to any dish. But I often find that it can be hard to decide what kind of spices to mix together. Enter DAK's seasoning blends to save me from a boring dinner. They offer 20 different original spice blends, each with its own unique flavor that I would never be able to achieve myself.

Based in Birmingham, Alabama, DAK's was created by husband and wife team Karen and Drew Clark. When the pair started dating, their friends gave the duo the nickname "DAK", which went on to become the name of their business. The inspiration behind creating salt-free spice blends came from Karen watching her parents, who had heart problems, struggle to find flavorful options that didn't include salt. In addition to being made without salt, the spice blends are also free of preservatives and MSG. They started selling their spice blends at a local farmers market and the company has continued to grow ever since.

My favorite DAK's spice blends are Green Zest, Taco Knight, and BBQueen. Green Zest is an all-purpose blend that tastes great on everything from chicken to veggies to eggs. It's packed with herbs and lemon zest for a burst of flavor without any heat. Taco Knight is, you guessed it, great for tacos, but also for adding a Southwest kick to soups, salads, and seafood. BBQueen was inspired by Memphis-style dry rub and is recommended to use as a rub or to add extra flavor to a marinade. However, my favorite way to use BBQueen is to add it to sweet potato fries.

If you're ready to try the blends for yourself but aren't sure which flavor to start with, DAK's offers a best-seller pack on Amazon. The set includes their six most popular seasoning blends for $34.95, which is a better value than purchasing them individually. You can browse all of the blends here on Amazon and learn more about DAK's at daksspices.com.
