Once upon a time, your kitchen was a quiet place. And then, you turned on your blender. That vrooming, whirring cacophony of notes erupts over your counter like encore applause at a concert.

But what if we told you it doesn't have to be that way? Indeed, there is a way to quell an oh-so-noisy blender. The fix is simple: Place your blender on top of a dish towel. If you don't have a spare towel or clean rag, a silicone mat will do, too. As The Kitchn explains, "Muffle the placing the blender on top of a folded dish towel or a rubber or silicon mat or trivet. These all help absorb some of the noise from the motor."
