On a time crunch? Don't fret. Defrost a turkey quickly and easily with these tips from Test Kitchen Director Robby Melvin.
Best way to defrost a turkey is in the refrigerator. Give yourself about one day of thawing for every four pounds of turkey. If you're brining, don't forget to plan for brine time, too. If you find yourself in a situation where your turkey is frozen, and you need to quickly defrost it, a cold water thaw in a large sink is best. Thaw the turkey breast side down, and un-open wrapper, and enough cold water to completely cover the turkey. Change the water frequently to keep the bird chilled. Estimate a minimum of 30 minutes per pound for a whole turkey. Find more cooking tips at southernliving.com.
