Halloween Spiderweb Decoration
This easy DIY decoration will be the perfect touch of Halloween for your home.
Top on our list of simple Halloween crafts this fall is this Spooky Spider Web Decoration. Perfect for hanging over your front door or for sprucing up a blank wall for a party, it’s the right amount of cute and creepy for the season. This Halloween door decoration doesn’t call for more than basic craft supplies like spray paint, pipe cleaners, wooden skewers, and rickrack, among a few other tools. We’ll bet you already have some of those hiding away in junk drawers at home. You’ll also need two (easy to download!) cutouts, which we’ve consolidated into one PDF for you to save and print. Pro tip: remember to use the acrylic paint on the foam, so you don’t accidentally dissolve the spider with spray paint. Another tip? Save yourself the frustration and buy a pre-cut cardboard circle. (We think Wilton cake circles are perfect.)
8 (12-inch) wooden skewers
Black spray paint
5/8-inch orange jumbo rick rack
1 (2 ½-inch) plastic foam ball
Black acrylic paint 32 (12-inch) black craft pipe cleaners or chenille stems (available from crafts store)
2 (2-inch) pieces 16-gauge florist wire, bent in half Directions:
Paint cardboard circle and skewers with black spray paint. Carefully cut plastic foam ball in half, using a foam cutter or serrated kitchen knife. Paint plastic foam ball half with acrylic black paint. Let dry. Download and print “eek” and eye template here. Cut out letters and glue onto cardboard circle. Cut out eyes.
Glue rick rack around outer edge of circle, using straight pins to anchor. Let dry. Insert skewers into edge of cardboard circle, spacing evenly and leaving about 9 inches showing.
Twist pipe cleaners around skewers at intervals, securing with a dot of glue and trimming excess.
Cut four pipe cleaners in half. Poke four holes in each side of foam ball half, using a skewer; insert pipe cleaners. Bend to create spider legs. Glue on eyes. Place “spider” over rick rack seam, and anchor to skewer with florist wire.
