We've given classic chocolate-covered strawberries a game day makeover! These adorable football-themed snacks won’t last long at your next tailgate event. Along with serving these pretty footballs at your gathering, choose another sweet from this lineup of party-perfect desserts. This is also an ideal treat to make for those who just simply love strawberries. The strawberry season in the South can seem really short, and we have a small window for when we can visit u-pick farms and farmers’ markets to carry home, among other seasonal produce, an abundance of sweet, juicy strawberries. Some of our favorite springtime cakes showcase the delicious, red strawberries of our region. Go ahead and purchase more than you think you will immediately use; strawberries freeze beautifully, allowing you a taste of spring throughout the coming winter months. Beyond strawberries, the South has an abundance of other berries, such as blueberries and blackberries, throughout the spring and summer, and Southern Living has an abundance of recipes for berry-loaded desserts for you to bake up. These cute chocolate-covered strawberry footballs are easy enough for the novice cook to make. You simply need fresh strawberries, melt-able chocolate candies, melt-able vanilla or white chocolate candies, and a plastic bag. You simply melt as much chocolate or vanilla candy as you think you will need. Leaving stems on, wash the strawberries and allow them to dry. Melt chocolate until smooth, dip each strawberry into the chocolate, and place on baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Allow the chocolate to harden. Once that happens, melt the vanilla candies until smooth, and then place inside a plastic bag. Snip off a small corner of the bag, and pipe football laces onto the chocolate strawberry. Want another design? Try monogramming initials onto the strawberries for a bridal luncheon or baby shower. Make this treat in advance and store in an airtight container.
