Make the most of summer with these helpful hosting tips from Southern Living editor Kimberly Whitman.
Hi. I'm Kimberly Schligo-Whitman, editor-at-large at Southern Living. Summer entertaining in the South is just the best. It is my favorite time of year, especially the Fourth of July. If you're gonna be hosting a fourth of July celebration, then I have a few very simple little tips for you. First of all, pull out those sparkly lights. There's just nothing better than having twinkle lights strung above your picnic table. Just cuz its such a fun and festive feeling and of course it goes along with all those sparklers that you can pull out after dinner and after dark when you're watching the fireworks. It's such great family fun. One of my favorite simple tips for summer entertaining will help you keep your dish cool out in the heat. If you take a large bowl and fill it with ice you can then take a small or medium bowl inside of that with whatever you would like to serve that you need to keep cool. It will keep everything fresh for hours. The perfect southern summer menu for an out door celebration has got to include corn on the cob. And grilled kabobs. I mean, it's such a great combination. Of course, you have to add in some other salads and things, too. A great potato salad or, or a green bean salad. But, there's nothing like that corn on the cob for a great summer celebration.
