The Coziest Winter Nail Colors for January 2022

The Coziest Winter Nail Colors for January 2022

The beginning of a new year often has us all feeling like starting off fresh by taking on better habits, getting rid of old ones, and—most commonly—changing up our look. While others are hitting the squats and going into the salon for a pixie cut, why not start slow and steady with a cozy winter manicure in a color that feels new to you? It takes only a little courage to step outside your usual OPI Lincoln Park After Dark or Essie Bordeaux, which is all you need to kick 2022 off on a fanciful foot.  From new wintry takes on classic dark nail colors to unique pops of color that'll have you feeling the opposite of boring, these are the best nail colors to try this January and tick off all the way into spring.

16 Kitchen Design Trends Southern Designers Predict Will Be Everywhere in 2022

16 Kitchen Design Trends Southern Designers Predict Will Be Everywhere in 2022

There's no denying how the pandemic fundamentally changed the world—including how we live (and work) inside our homes. An overall trend toward celebrating the history and originality of our homes is displacing ultramodern aesthetics and sharp lines as we all look to create cozier, colorful, more personalized spaces that better suit our lifestyles. We're turning away from big-box stores and toward vintage items—first, out of necessity due to supply-chain issues, and now, for design reasons—to add charm and character to every room in the house, including the kitchen. Here, interior designers from around the South share their predictions for what's trending in kitchen design for 2022 and beyond.

Controversial confession: The crust is the best part. Yep. Who could resist flaky, buttery shards that crumble oh-so-perfectly on each juicy bite of fruit? And fresh from the oven? Don't even get us started. Dreamy. In total honesty, we've been known to shove the fruit aside completely from time to time. While we'll take any fruit with our pie crust, we have an especially soft spot for the apple, our trusty mainstay. Apple pie with a great crust is something that can't be beat. Apple pie with a soggy crust? No. No. No. But with one of these six fabulous options, it's nearly a guarantee that there won't be a slice left. Plus, there are quite a few pie crust patterns to choose from, meaning no more boring pies that blend in with the rest of them. From the pretty, classic lattice to the simple, easy pie crust cutouts, there is a pie crust design for nearly every occasion.

Well, we'll be darned if lattice wasn't the first thing we mentioned. A tried-and-true classic, the lattice weave is found atop many a pie, and rumor has it a lattice pie crust makes desserts that much sweeter. Don't be fooled by the apparent simplicity, either. Get creative when you cut strips of pie dough for unique edges.

This one's for the crust lovers. The slab pie crust couldn't be easier since the majority of the crust forms, well, the slab. How you decorate the top is up to you. Braids of pie crust, more lattice, cut-outs in seasonal shapes, the options are endless.

This is where the real fun is at, folks. Choose your shapes according to the season (or your whim) and get going. Leaves and animals for fall, stars and stripes for summer, flowers for spring (groundbreaking, we know), little Christmas trees and turkeys in the winter.
